Rotary Foundation Giving:  The Rotary Foundation transforms your donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.  Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 Billion on life-changing sustainable projects.  That is the power of Rotary.  Our club strives to have every member donate $100 every year to change the world.  Our club will match up to $50 per Rotarian.   You can donate online: HERE

On Weds Sept 29th 2021, our Guest Speaker was NY Assemblyman Michael Durso.

Michael Durso was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 3, 2020. His district is comprised of parts of both Nassau and Suffolk counties, including South Farmingdale, Massapequa, Massapequa Park, West Babylon, Babylon, West Islip, Brightwaters, and portions of Fire Island and the Great South Bay area.

Michael grew up in a blue-collar family in Massapequa Park. At an early age, Michael learned the importance of hard work while helping his mother make ends meet at her small restaurant. With the work ethic of his parents, Michael started his adult career putting in a hard day’s work as a sanitation worker riding on the back of a truck.

As a State Assemblyman, Michael will work across the aisle to protect the STAR program, keep property tax rebate checks and increase funding for local schools. As a graduate of carpentry from BOCES in Levittown, Michael will advocate for additional funding for vocational programs to train our youth and to fill the shortage of skilled labor. Michael will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our police, firefighters, doctors, nurses and frontline workers. As a certified first responder, Michael understands the importance of securing the resources needed to keep our communities safe.

Michael Durso resides in Massapequa Park with his wife, Dana, and their two daughters, Nicole and Taylor. Dana serves as Trustee for the Village of Massapequa Park and PTA President for East Lake Elementary School.

October 6th: Trip to Baiting Hollow Boy Scout Lodge:

This Weds our regular meeting was held at Baiting Hollow Boy Scout Lodge in Baiting Hollow, NY.  We toured the newly constructed McMorris Lodge and enjoyed lunch.   The lodge was built in honor of Andrew McMorris, a boy scout killed by a drunk driver in 2018 while hiking in Manorville with his Troop. The lodge is 3200 Sq ft and sleeps 40 scouts.   The guest speaker was David Hunt, the Council President for the Suffolk County Council.  He shared a moving eulogy that he wrote for a Scout Master that had a big impact on his life.  Boy Scouts has many programs for various age groups which all now serve both boys and girls.  The trip to the lodge was a Thank You to our club for donating $2000 for appliances for the McMorris Lodge.   It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods with friends and all Rotarians in attendance report having a wonderful time.  Boy Scouts of America Suffolk County Council is hosting their annual Gatsby Gala on October 28th. There will be food, drinks, casino games & great raffles.  There is also a sports raffle in which you can participate without attending the event!   CLICK HERE for more info.
