Wildlife In Need Rescue and Rehabilitation
WINORR is a non-profit, volunteer organization, serving New York city ,Nassau and Western Sufflok Counties, which provides professional care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.
The Horvaths have been running WINORR out of their North Massapequa home for more than two decades. During that time they've had thousands of animals come through their doors, averaging about 700 animals per year.
WINORR is licensed by state and federal governments to rescue and care for wild animals received through the Department of Environmental Conservation, local police, animal hospitals, humane societies, animal control, and from the general public.
Several local veterinarians generously donate their time and expertise to WINORR. Since the organization does not currently have a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation center, a small network of home-based rehabilitators fill this need.
WINORR also provides information and education for the community, and offers sanctuary or finds permanent placement for non-releasable wildlife that are unable to survive in the wild or otherwise would face euthanasia.
They receive no funds from federal, state, or country agencies and are totally dependent on donations, grants, and fundraisers to pay for daily operations.
Cathy and Bobby use several rescued animals, which cannot be released in the wild, for educational purposes – today they brought a Eurasian Eagle Owl, Red Tailed hawk, American Kestrel, skunk, opossum and baby gray squirrel.
